These lands will be purchased by TPL/TNC in two phases: December 2009 and December 2010. Because the goal of the project to is maintain working forest lands, all of the Swan Valley lands will be subject to a Fiber Supply Agreement whereby local Plum Creek mills are assured of 92 MM Board Feet of timber for the next ten years.
Long term ownership of the land will be based on surrounding ownerships. Much of the lands in the upper Swan Valley will go to the Forest Service, while the northern portion will likely be added to the Swan River State Forest. Several parcels remain outstanding in and around the community of Condon and may end up as community forest, community land projects, or additional private holdings.
The primary contact for the project is Chris Bryant, TNC, Western Montana Outreach and Communications Director. He can be reached at: (406) 543-6681
